With other teams announcing everything from new partnerships to new drivers, it’s par for the course for Hendrick Motorsports, which returns with the same lineup and crews from a 2012 season that saw all four teams make the Chase for the Championship. “Obviously, with the new car, we’re excited to get things going,” said team owner Rick Hendrick, who was flanked by Kasey Kahne and Jeff Gordon to his right and Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. to his left. “There’s a lot of anticipation to get this season started, and I think I can speak for all four drivers when I say they’re ready to get to Daytona.” Kahne, who missed last year’s Sprint Media Tour because of jury duty, is geared up and ready to pick up where he left off in 2012. “We had a great season in 2012, but we also left a lot on the table,” said Kahne, who finished with two victories and fourth in points. “I’ve been here a year now, and it’s an unbelievable place, and everyone knows the opportunity Mr. H gives us, so we

Kasey Kahne shows off new 'high and tight' 'do

At least it wasn’t a mullet. Dale Earnhardt Jr. might be the prohibitive NASCAR fan favorite, but in the minds of the ladies, it’s usually all about Kasey Kahne. The 32-year-old has developed a reputation over the years as quite the heartthrob, but he’s also been very successful on the track with 25 wins overall between the various NASCAR series. However, Kahne may lose a few...

Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood unveiled the first renderings of what the redeveloped DIS could look like during Thursday’s “state of the sport” that took place at a media event in Charlotte, NC. New Gen-6 car has Jeff Gordon primed for 2013 season

Even though Hendrick Motorsports won 18 of 36 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points races in 2007, and even though Jeff Gordon came within an eyelash of his fifth championship, the driver of the No. 24 Chevrolet never liked the winged behemoth that debuted that year. The lack of brand identity of the car design was something that struck Gordon immediately. "We had a car (Gen-4...

Behind the scenes at Hendrick Motorsports

CHARLOTTE Tucked away in an off-limits-to-the-public building on the sprawling Hendrick Motorsports campus which could best be described as Rick Hendricks man cave, Dale Earnhardt Jr. set up in his seat. NASCARs 10-time winner of the Most Popular Driver Award fastened the second button on a white shirt adorned with the HMS logo on one side and sponsor National Guard on the other...

One fan at a time

Travis Pastrana has more than half a million Twitter followers, ranking him first -- decisively -- among full-time Nationwide Series drivers. Pastrana's fans, however, know him best for dangerous extreme-sports tricks that last two or three seconds. How does Pastrana convert those followers -- many of whom fall into the 18-34-year-old age group NASCAR covets -- to NASCAR fans...
