The Texas Rangers Are Making (Unsustainable) History In One-Run Games

The 2016 Texas Rangers are making history. Their 30-8 record in one-run games gives them a .789 winning percentage that, if it holds up, would set a record for the best winning percentage in one-run games since 1901. But the Rangers have a not-so-slight problem that could haunt them in the playoffs: performance in one-run games is almost entirely — though not exclusively — a...

Why Carlos Gomez Is No Longer A (Lone) Star

When the Twins acquired Carlos Gomez in the Johan Santana trade, they thought they were acquiring a future five tool centerfielder. However, after two very subpar seasons posting OPS+ of 65 and 77 (with 100 being league average), they gave up and traded him for J.J. Hardy before the 2010 season. It took a couple more seasons, but in 2012, Gomez finally established himself as an...

Carlos Beltran rocks the drawn-on hairstyle in dugout (Video)

Carlos Beltran is the latest athlete to try to paint on his hair. Beltran displayed the look Sunday in the Texas Rangers dugout as they beat the Cleveland Indians, and teammate Martin Perez in particular looked quite amused by Beltran’s appearance. So yeah, not quite the best look. You can even see the sideburns starting to run a little bit. But it’s a style statement, and...

WATCH: Carlos Gomez homers in first at-bat with Rangers

Carlos Gomez seemed to be really happy that he left Houston, judging by what he did in his first at-bat as a new member of the Texas Rangers. Yu Darvish’s Night at the Plate

We are currently in the 20th year of regular-season interleague play. I’m not sure exactly how many repetitions it takes for an event to transition from exciting novelty to mundane part of the schedule, but somewhere along the way interleague play has done just that. We now accept that this is a world where things as bizarre as Marlins/Mariners series will occur from time to time...

WATCH: Yu Darvish crushes huge home run and his teammates love it

Who says the DH leads to more entertaining baseball? If the Rangers hadn’t been playing in Cincinnati on Wednesday, Yu Darvish would have been on the bench instead of in the batters box in the top of the fifth. Lucky for all of us (unless you’re a Reds fan, in which case you’re unlucky on multiple levels) Darvish was standing in, and facing a 1-2 count. Then, magic: Yu...
