ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) Oakland Raiders coach Dennis Allen remains hopeful that running back Maurice Jones-Drew will be able to play in Sunday's home opener against the Houston Texans.
Nick Roach's status isn't as encouraging, meaning the Raiders likely will be without their starting middle linebacker for a second straight week.

The Oakland Raiders will be without one of their key defenders Sunday against the New York Jets as middle linebacker Nick Roach is inactive because he has not been cleared from an Aug. 22 concussion.
Roach played every defensive snap for Oakland last year.
He will be replaced by Miles Burris in the starting lineup.

Many members of the Oakland Raiders spend portions of their offseason training with various independent companies. With strict rules in the NFL collective bargaining agreement which limit the amount of contact coaches can have with players during the offseason, it makes sense that many will turn to companies with coaches and facilities that match the quality of that found in the...

We continue our Draft Possibilities series with two inside linebackers who caught the Oakland Raiders attention during the scouting and player evaluation process: Kevin Reddick and Kiko Alonso. After giving up on the underachieving Rolando McClain earlier in the off-season, the Silver & Black signed former Bears’ Nick Roach to take over the middle linebacker spot in 2013. However, that [...]
At the end of last week, the Raiders signed former Chicago Bears LB Nick Roach to a 4 year deal worth up to $13 million. The 6’1 235 lbs linebacker played as the Bears starting strong-side linebacker last year (strong side is the side of the line where the tight end lines up) for most of the season but filled in at middle linebacker for the last four games of the season when...
With Nick Roach signing in Oakland, the Bears are now forced to bargain shop for linebackers. We break down some potential options in free agency that could contribute at a discount.
Chicago Bears free agent linebacker Nick Roach appears to be drawing interest from other teams.
Roach's agent Josh Wright declined comment on the status of negotiations with the Bears, but said six teams had called as of Saturday afternoon.
Roach has mostly played strong side linebacker during his six seasons with the Bears, but has also seen time in the middle.
