The rookie minicamp was the first on-field time for the newest Minnesota Vikings. J.J. McCarthy was the obvious highlight, throwing his first passes in Vikings gear and getting his first up-close coaching from head coach Kevin O’Connell and QB coach Josh McCown.
By the end of the 2023 regular season, the Vikings were working with a whopping eleven players on injured reserve. Tossing Malik Knowles — who was technically on the Non-Football Injury List — into the mix brings things to a discouraging 12 total players.

The Minnesota Vikings waived undrafted rookie wide receiver Malik Knowles on Monday, presumably to clear room for the team’s roster additions, which included TE Colin Thompson, OG Jack Snyder, and OT Bobby Evans.
Monday was a busy day in the Vikings universe. The team waived Malik Knowles with an injury designation, placed Chris Reed on the NFI list, Andre Carter II on the PUP list, and signed three new players — tight end Colin Thompson, offensive tackle Bobby Evans, and offensive guard Jack Snyder.
The Vikings made a flurry of roster moves on Monday, getting their 90-man roster set (for now) ahead of the official start of training camp on Tuesday.

Malik Knowles raced 75 yards on a jet sweep for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage and the Kansas State Wildcats dominated the South Dakota Coyotes 34-0 in Manhattan, Kan., in the season-opener for both teams.
The Wildcats delivered a stress-free opening Saturday. Malik Knowles set the tone on the first play of the game, racing for a 75-yard score on a jet sweep, and the Kansas State Wildcats just kept rolling to a 34-0 victory over the South Dakota Coyotes at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
