Dell Curry On His Son Seth Being Traded To The Hornets And Wearing His Number: 'It's A Dream Come True As A Dad'
Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Seth Curry is now a member of the Charlotte Hornets , and his father, Dell, is delighted. Prior to the Hornets' clash with the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday, Dell spoke about how it was a dream come true to see Seth with the franchise.

"It's a dream come true as a dad, I played here for 10 years, and (now) have your son play and wear the same number," Curry said. "I haven't slept much last night, haven't stopped smiling since the trade was made and now it all comes to fruition right here."

Seth landed on the Hornets after the Dallas Mavericks traded him, Grant Williams, and a 2027 first-round pick for P.J. Washington and two second-round picks. He has chosen to wear the No. 30, the same number his father wore when he played for the franchise.

Dell, who has been a color commentator for the Hornets since 2009, is thrilled to see his son play for the team with which his name is synonymous. He was the first pick that the Hornets had made in the 1988 NBA Expansion Draft, and would play for them for 10 seasons.

Curry would average 14.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game during his time with the team. When he retired, he was the Hornets' all-time leader in games, points, threes made and attempted, and three-point percentage as well.

Seth Curry Has Always Wanted To Wear No. 30 For The Hornets

Getting back to Seth, he would have been delighted by the news that he was being traded to Charlotte. Last year, Curry mentioned that he had always thought about wearing that No. 30 jersey for the Hornets.

“Growing up a Hornets fan, watching my dad play, you always think about one of us wearing that No. 30 Hornets jersey in the modern era,” Curry told Sam Albuquerque of Greenville News. “But like I always say, you never know in this league.”

“I’ve always loved the Hornets,” he added. “If I wasn’t in the league that would be my favorite team. … so we’ll see what happens.”

Well, he is now on the team that he grew up rooting for, and would be hoping to have a big impact on the court. The 33-year-old averaged just 4.3 points, 1.4 rebounds, 0.8 assists, and 0.5 steals per game this season in a very limited role for the Mavericks, and should now get more opportunities to play.

He played 20 minutes here on his Hornets debut against the Grizzlies, finishing with 3 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, and 1 block, as Charlotte won 115-106 to improve to 11-41.

Stephen Curry Had Teased The Possibility Of Him Playing For The Hornets One Day

Seth isn't Dell's only son to play in the NBA, of course, with Stephen Curry having surpassed even his father's exploits in the league. He has played for the Golden State Warriors his entire career, and Curry spoke about playing for the Hornets in the future.

"I think both things can be true: I love the journey with the Warriors, and there's never been any real interest in playing for any other team. But the curiosity around what it would be like to play for your hometown, what it'd be like to live in Charlotte, to possibly set up roots and all that? You think about it for sure," Curry said.

"If I can play for the Warriors my entire career and be one of those guys where I've had a lot of success - individually and collectively as a team - and become a one-team guy? That list is pretty short. ... But like I said, that can be true, and also the curiosity of like, 'What would it be like to wear No. 30 in Charlotte like my pops?'"

With Curry under contract with the Warriors through the 2027-28 season, a potential move to the Hornets won't be happening anytime soon. Still, it would be special to see him wear his father's number like Seth is doing right now.
