MIAMI - NOVEMBER 23: Team owners Kevin Harvick (R) and wife DeLana Harvick pose with the 2009 Camping World Truck Series trophy during the NASCAR Nationwide/Truck Series Banquet at Loews Miami Beach Hotel on November 23, 2009 in Miami, Florida. (Photo by Chris Graythen/Getty Images for NASCAR)

What this means is that no matter where Harvick ranks in today’s qualifying session for Saturday’s NRA 500, he will have to start from the rear of the field. This marks the second engine that has gone up in smoke for the Earnhardt Childress Engine shop, as Paul Menard lost a motor in testing Thursday. Harvick has had a sluggish start to 2013, as he has just one top-10 through six races, and he sits 14th in the point standings. If he expects to move forward, he’ll have to do it from the back of the field on Saturday.
