Twins manager Ron Gardenhire is about to return to a team that is playing markedly better than when he left it two days ago.
Saturday, the offense showed it can take advantage of a struggling starter. And Ricky Nolasco allayed fears about a possible Vance Worley redux.
And after being beat down by the Royals for most of 2013, the Twins whipped them 7-1 Saturday, giving them victories...
Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire reached a milestone Saturday afternoon by gaining career win number 1,000 in a 7-3 defeat against the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field.
With the win over Cleveland, Gardenhire has now become the 60th manager in history to achieve the milestone, and just the eighth manager since 1961 to do so with one team.
CLEVELAND -- Ron Gardenhire won his 1,000th game as the Twins manager on Saturday as Minnesota defeated Cleveland 7-3 at Progressive Field.
Gardenhire, who is in his 13th season as manager, is the 10th in major league history to win 1,000 games with the same team. The win came in his 1,950th game.
After the game, Gardenhire was doused with champagne and presented the lineup card...

At the end of the 2013 season, Ron Gardenhire didn't know whether he'd ever get a chance to earn his 1,000th career win. He and the Minnesota Twins had just finished up their third season of 96 or more losses, and Gardenhire's future hung in the balance.
Yet despite the losing, Minnesota showed a sign of faith in Gardenhire to lead a turnaround in Minnesota and brought...
These are some of the things I have written about Ron Gardenhire on my site for the last several years of blog production:
“It’s time to fire Ron Gardenhire”
“Ron Gardenhire needs to find better sources for advice”
“What Ron Gardenhire really needs is a substance abuse problem”
“No, still fire Gardenhire”
“Remember, this is Ron Gardenhire’s fault”
In a move that flies in the face of conventional baseball decorum and environmental sustainability -- and possibly suggests manager Ron Gardenhire was in the middle of a hot dog when he remembered the Twins were playing a day game -- Minnesota's lineup card was posted Wednesday on a napkin.
The white paper napkin -- rumpled but devoid any discernible condiment stains -- was put...
CHICAGO (AP) -- A pair of blown fuses shut down the Minnesota Twins' replay system before Monday's season opener at U.S. Cellular Field, and manager Ron Gardenhire hoped it would be fixed by gametime.
Technicians were working to solve the problem as the Twins prepared to play the Chicago White Sox.
"How's that going to work out? I get to kick dirt again?" Gardenhire...
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Tom Kelly remembers going through what Ron Gardenhire has gone through.
"I got my brains beat in," the former Minnesota Twins manager said. "You'd think my wife gave me stupid pills."
However, he always felt supported and that management had his back.
Kelly clearly recalls after one tough stretch talking with then-general manager Andy McPhail...

MINNEAPOLIS -- Twins manager Ron Gardenhire had never seen a season quite like 2011 in regard to injuries. Heck, he even had an Achilles' injury at one point in the season.
As the health of the Minnesota Twins dwindled, so too did the wins. From the first week of the season until the last game of the year, Gardenhire never had a full squad on the field as the Twins finished...
