Sunday was a bit of a microcosm of how the Mets’ minor league affiliates’ seasons have gone. The three highest levels (Triple-A, Double-A, High-A) won, and each of these affiliates now holds a record above .500.
Sunday in the Mets’ minor leagues featured several fantastic performances, headlined by two struggling prospects, Luisangel Acuña and Kevin Parada. Acuña and Parada are considered top prospects for a reason, but they haven’t lived up to that while part of the Mets organization.
Across the five levels of Mets minor league affiliates, they combined to score 38 runs. Top prospects on every team seemed to perform, namely Luisangel Acuña, Kevin Parada, Ryan Clifford, and Boston Baro, all of whom had multi-hit efforts.
While the 2023 season was extremely disappointing for the New York Mets at the big league level, at least they used the down-year productively to bolster their farm system.
St. Lucie’s (Single-A) Jonah Tong put up another double-digit strikeout performance, while Kevin Parada hit his first homer of the season as Double-A Binghamton splits their doubleheader. Weather continued to be an issue as another affiliate’s game was postponed.
With pitchers and catchers set to report to spring training in the coming days, now’s a better time than ever to take stock of the Mets’ roster. Let’s take a look at one of the team’s aforementioned position groups and see how their backstops shake out heading into the 2024 season.
