Amidst the furor of Ricky Hatton’s short-lived comeback, there was an excellent fight further down Saturday night’s Manchester bill featuring two of Britain’s best super bantamweights, as Scott Quigg and Rendall Munroe squared off for a second time. Their first fight proved inconclusive, ending in anti-climax with a bad cut to Munroe leaving him unable to continue, while Quigg’s perfect record was blotched by the resulting technical draw. Settling matters was an important piece of business for both Quigg and Munroe to attend to, but the unfortunate yet stark reality was that their fight garnered little attention in the blazing wake left by the media trail coveting Hatton’s return. Nonetheless, those in the fight game knew the genuine significance of this bout. Quigg - a fresh faced and well talked-of prospect, had it tough against the dogged, battle-hardened Munroe, and an exciting cross-roads clash was fully anticipated. Munroe entered the ring to The Fugees “Ready or Not”. It show...

Ricky Hatton Comeback Bid Cut In Two By Vyacheslav Senchenko Body Shot

Ricky Hatton used to live by the body shot. His comeback bid died by it Saturday, as Vyacheslav Senchenko stopped Hatton on Showtime with a left hook liver punch in the 9th round of a fight that Hatton might've won on the scorecards if he'd made it one more round. Ricky Hatton’s comeback – What went wrong?

More than a few boxing pundits were eating crow this weekend, having predicted that Ricky Hatton would whip Vyacheslav Senchenko, winning either by a lopsided points decision or late round stoppage. Although I was among those predicting a Hatton win, I don't feel I'm among the sports writers who dined on exotic fowl, since I came very close to pegging what actually happened...

Weekend Afterthoughts On Ricky Hatton Retiring, Andre Berto's Suckiness Or Lack Thereof, More

(Robert Guerrero, left, Andre Berto, right; via) It was another fine weekend for the sport of boxing: An ugly, mauling affair between an undersized welterweight and a much-maligned, frequently pampered villain metamorphosed into a demonstration of human willpower at nearly its finest, while an old hero made an initially electrifying comeback that turned disappointing yet somehow...
