Alice Mannette/Hutchinson News / USA TODAY NETWORK

Few people in the wrestling business can wear the title “Icon” without any dispute. Stone Cold’ Steve Austin is one of those wrestlers, and almost twenty-eight years ago, he would give a promo at the King of the Ring with a line that would change professional wrestling and the world forever: “Austin 3:16 says that I just whipped your as%.”

Stone Cold & the WWE would take that slogan and turn it into a hit with Austin and his merchandise. Before you know it, the arenas worldwide would sell out of “Austin 3:16” shirts, hats, and whatever else the WWE could make for purchase. Austin’s character took on a life of its own, and the Stone Cold Steve Auston era would begin. In all reality, it has never ended, as some of his slogans like “What” and “That’s the bottom line” are still used today or chanted by the WWE universe at live events.

Due to Austin’s iconic career in the WWE, every year on March 16, the world celebrates Stone Cold Steve Austin by posting memes, videos, and favorite moments from the man known as “The Rattle Snake.” Each year’s response is so overwhelming that it trends on social media worldwide, making it almost unavoidable to come across.
