AEW commentator Nigel McGuinness recently talked about a potential return to in-ring competition.

It was back in 2011 when McGuinness last stepped foot inside the squared circle. He went on to announce his retirement from in-ring action due to health issues. Recently, fans had been speculating that he would step out of retirement.

During the media scrum of Double or Nothing 2023, Bryan Danielson claimed that he would break Nigel's neck should they share the ring. With All In taking place in London later this month, it was speculated that Nigel would step out of retirement to face Bryan Danielson at Wembley Stadium. However, that is not going to happen.

Nigel McGuinness was seemingly interested in a bout with Danielson but the latter is sidelined with a broken arm. Danielson’s injury took place in the match against Kazuchika Okada in the main event of June’s AEWxNJPW: Forbidden Door pay-per-view.

Nigel McGuinness: The only way I was ever going to come out of retirement was for a match against Bryan Danielson

In his recent appearance on the AEW Unrestricted podcast, Nigel McGuinness addressed the comments from 'The American Dragon.' He stated that he is currently in the best shape of his career, and ready to compete in the ring. However, He revealed that he does not see himself doing so despite being physically ready.

Here is what Nigel McGuinness said:

"The truth of the matter is, like the only way I was ever going to come out of retirement was for a match against Bryan Danielson at Wembley Stadium. It was going to take something like that for me to come out of retirement because I really value my job doing announcing and there are so many other guys on the card, so much better than me and deserve those spots. But in the right situation, as I mentioned, me and Dragon at Wembley Stadium..."

He further added:

"...Someone asked him that question in one of the media scrums and he was like, he said 'I respect Nigel as a commentator, but if he gets in the ring with me, I'd break his neck,' and he's the one with a broken arm, and I never got a chance to wrestle him. That is karma. I'm not saying he'd be scared of wrestling me again, of course, he's had a lot more experience than me. But I'll be perfectly honest with you. I'm in as good of shape now as I've ever been. I'm in ring shape, I'm ready to go, but I can't see myself wrestling at this time in that sort of situation. That's the truth of the matter."

AEW All In pay-per-view is set to take place on Sunday, August 27 at the iconic Wembley Stadium.
