Former WWE Women’s Champion Mickie James has been open about her friendship with the self-proclaimed Best in the World CM Punk.

During a recent interview with Gabby on the Gabby AF podcast, the former WWE Superstar shared her thoughts on the return of CM Punk to the Stamford-based promotion.

“Even when you say it to see [CM] Punk back in a WWE ring it’s kind of crazy. But, after he left AEW I go, ‘Oh he’s going back.’ I mean, everything’s changed. The landscape, everything has changed there. I feel like, when you feel like you have unfinished business, you have to kind of put a bow on that business to go like, ‘No,’” Mickie James said.

The former IMPACT Knockout Women’s Champion also reflected on her run in the Nashville-based promotion.

“And even I felt that way, and I was so grateful for what I was able to do at IMPACT. But then to be able to go back at the Rumble and fight for all of these things and to be able to get them, which was already surreal in my mind. And then I go, ‘Please. Please let these people react. Like let them please. At least let me get a mediocre pop…’ It was insane. And I’d always wanted to be Hardcore Country in front of the WWE audience. It was something that I always wanted to present to them and I kind of pitched at it.

“And they didn’t really understand or it was so far removed from what I was doing between the stuff with Alexa and the different stuff. So I just couldn’t get them to see the vision and I think, me being able to go away… That’s why sometimes you don’t know. We don’t always see these things that happen to us as blessings until you can look back and see how far you come after that. Because then I go like… Actually, I was able to go away and prove myself, and prove that everything that I was saying or felt that I was fighting for. And then sometimes being humbled or feeling, ‘Maybe I’m fighting for the wrong things, or maybe it is my ego. Or maybe it is these things.’
