New Japan Pro Wrestling concluded its G1 Climax 33 tournament on Aug. 13, which featured several great wrestlers who competed to earn an IWGP World Heavyweight Championship opportunity at Wrestle Kingdom in January. The tournament had a mixture of G1 Climax veterans and beginners, with ten wrestlers participating for the first time. NJPW legend Jushin "Thunder" Liger watched the G1 Climax this year and believed Hikuleo was the talent that stood out for him the most.

In an interview with Tokyo Sports, Liger praised Hikuleo and shared why he left a strong impression on him in the G1 Climax 33.

Tokyo Sports' Yusuke Okamoto transcribed the following quotes.

"...He has a good bloodline, a good physique, and a desire to improve. If you have that much physique, you would normally become a tengu. I've seen a lot of players like that. But he is serious and comes to listen to advice and makes use of it in the game. If you keep going up to New Japan, next year, the year after next, you might win the finals, or maybe all at once," said Liger

In the tournament, Hikuleo won four matches with victories over Ren Narita, Yota Tsuji, Kaito Kiyomiya, and Shota Umino. He made it to the quarterfinals on Aug. 10, where Hikuleo was defeated and eliminated from G1 Climax 33 by Tetsuya Naito.

What's Next After The G1 Climax 33?

The G1 Climax 33 finals on Aug. 13 had Naito defeating Kazuchika Okada to win the tournament. He has earned the right to challenge IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Sanada at Wrestle Kingdom 18 on Jan. 4. However, he may be in a feud before he gets his title opportunity next year.

After the win, Naito was confronted by Jeff Cobb during his post-match press conference. It seems they will have a feud and a match before the end of the year. As of now, it's unclear when they will finally compete.

NJPW's next big event will be collaborating with Impact Wrestling on Aug. 20 for NJPW/Impact Wrestling: Multiverse United 2-For Whom The Bell Tolls.
