Jim Ross re-signs with AEW, but the extension was only for a year as the pro wrestling legend sees retirement before 2024 concludes.

Jim Ross has covered wrestling for a majority of his life. He is best known for his time in WWE, but has been team AEW since 2019. The WWE Hall of Famer re-signed a short extension to stay until the end of the year. As for 2025, Ross noted on his Grilling JR podcast, how he would likely retire within the next nine months.

“I can think realistically this could be my last year, and more than likely will,” said Ross.

Health Issues Continue To Plague Legend

For the longest time, Ross was considered one of the greatest minds in pro wrestling. He is very knowledgeable, but certainly not as sharp. The man has battled cancer and won. During that time, he also lost his wife. He keeps falling, but does not stay down for long. As for calling AEW action, he was part of Dynamite before being featured less. He was going to be a mainstay on Collision, but a bad fall shortly before the debut episode changed plans.

Personally, it seems like Ross has lost a step. He just turned 72 years old and calling pro wrestling is not easy. There are always new names joining and whole set of moves to learn. He needs to be applauded for working, despite dealing with various obstacles. Most people would have called it a career, but Ross loves the business.

So, Jim Ross re-signs with AEW while knowing retirement is not far off. Will he actually retire before the year ends? We hear that all the time from wrestling figures. Although, few stick to their words. Hopefully, Ross works part of the year and goes out on his own terms.
