Exiled AEW star sends message to Sting following retirement match

Jack Perry hasn't been seen on AEW TV since his dispute with CM Punk at All-In in 2023. Perry was suspended indefinitely for his part in the affray. However, he has begun to surface with New Japan Pro Wrestling. He even had a viral spot that saw him rip up his AEW contract.

Despite being estranged from the company that helped him rise to prominence within the wrestling community, Perry has taken time out of his schedule to congratulate Sting. "The Icon" called time on his career at AEW Revolution on Sunday, defeating "The Young Bucks" in a tag team title match.

“By the way, Sting, congratulations on your retirement," Perry said during a promo segment for NJPW. "Wonderful career. You got to end it with two of the best professional wrestlers in the entire world.”

There is currently no reporting on whether Perry's prolonged absence from AEW indicates he has left the company. Given Tony Khan's stellar working relationship with NJPW, Perry could be in Japan while still under contract. However, his absence is hurting his chances of making an impact should he return.

The additions of Jay White, Will Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada and Mercedes Mone have raised the bar within AEW. The internal improvements of Daniel Garcia and Darby Allin also prove Perry would need help to make headway on the main roster.

As such, Perry would be wise to remain with NJPW. The company has lost a host of top talent in recent months. He would be wise to grow with the company and rebuild his reputation before a rabid and committed audience. Paying homage to Sting was the classy thing to do. Staying with NJPW for as long as possible will be the smartest thing. Perry has to start somewhere. The CM Punk fiasco left a stain on his reputation.

It will take some time, but Perry can still become a star — just not with AEW, at least not right now.
