Watch: Diamond Miller embrace Brenda Frese in final Maryland moments

Diamond Miller poured her heart into this season, as the senior did her best to lead the Maryland Terrapins women’s basketball team to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015. However, Miller and the Terrapins fell short 86-75 to the undefeated defending national champion, South Carolina.

The loss, one game shy of the Final Four, most likely spells the end of Miller’s collegiate career. With the game no longer in doubt, Miller got subbed out. As she walked off the court one final time as a student-athlete, she embraced Terrapins’ head coach Brenda Frese.

The player and coach took several moments, exchanging pleasantries as Miller became visibly emotional.

Diamond Miller capped her best season at Maryland with a game-high 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting against South Carolina. But the Gamecocks were just too much in the end.

Miller took a huge step this season following the transfers of Angel Reese to LSU and Ashley Owusu to Virginia Tech. Miller finished the season averaging career-highs of 19.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.1 steals. She was a second-team All-American.

If Monday was her final game for the Terrapins, Miller finishes 10th on Maryland women’s all-time scoring list with 1,555 points.

Miller has 48 hours to declare for next month’s WNBA Draft. Many expect her to do so. Miller projects to go as high as second overall behind South Carolina’s Ailyah Boston.
