'You have to be really great in every area,' As Rohan Bopanna achieves the unthinkable World No. 1 feat, partner Matthew Eden outlines the mettle it takes

With the tennis world up and moving, players have to be close to perfect to stand out. Opening about this was Matthew Ebden, who partnered with Rohan Bopanna in a thriller of a final at the Australian Open.

Playing against the world-class Italian duo of Simone Bolelli-Andrea Vavassori, Ebden contributed with his perfect net volleys and serves. Serving for the match, the Australian ripped a few blinders to seal the match and win his team their first championship.

With this win, Ebden moves up a spot in the doubles ranking and is at World No. 3. His partner Bopanna moved up to the grand position of World No. 1 with this victory. Ebden was rather happy with his partner’s feat and praised him highly during the press.

I think these days to win in doubles or to be No. 1, the best, you have to be great in every area. You can't just be a serve-volleyer or have a bad forehand or have bad returns or a bad serve or something. The level is so, so, so high, so I think that's what I can put it down to.  Said Matthew Ebden to the AO Press about his partner Bopanna

With their immense experience in the doubles field, Ebden and Bopanna unknowingly formed a dream team to win their first Australian Open title.

After constant failure, the duo stuck together and overcame their many losses together. After a semi-final exit at Wimbledon, they reached their first Grand Slam final at the US Open. Coming from this experience, they won their first major title together.

Matthew Ebden opens up about the bond he shares with Bopanna, calls it a godsend

Matthew Ebden and Rohan Bopanna pulled off a perfect victory at the finals of the Australian Open.

From the start, Ebden went all-out with his serves. Serving at angles and hitting the volleys. Both Bopanna and him are athletes above the age of 30 and are thriving for the best spot. Improving from time to time, they moved up the rankings and entered the top positions in the game.

Challenging each other to play their best, both the tennis players played their absolute level best in the finals. Understanding each other’s hand movements, they served their way to the first Grand Slam win.

Finding ways to win and improve, the dream duo got their big break on the grand stage. As one of the first Australians to win the 2024 Australian Open, he reached his career-best ranking.
