The WTA Hungarian Grand Prix continues in Budapest with nine main draw singles matches scheduled for Tuesday, Day 2 of main draw play. An all-Hungarian clash sees Timea Babos pitted against Anna Bondar, while Yulia Putintseva will try to turn around her head-to-head with Kateryna Volodko. Who do you think will prevail? We also predict the rest of the day’s matches in a separate article.

WTA Budapest Day 2 Predictions

Evgeniya Rodina vs Anna Siskova

Head-to-head: First meeting

Anna Siskova managed to qualify for this event, winning a couple of thrillers against Lena Papadakis and Maria Timofeeva. Her opponent, Evgeniya Rodina, has had a number of breaks in her career of late, giving birth and also battling some injuries. She isn’t fully back yet, but she was pretty active during the grass season. She’s still the better player though and she should be able to show it.
Predictions: Rodina in 2

Daria Saville vs Tereza Martincova

Head-to-head: Martincova 1-0

Daria Saville kicked off her season just last month due to an injury, so she’s still not back to her best match rhythm. Tereza Martincova is under a question mark too though, reaching the semifinals at the 125K in Contrexeville last week, but finishing her run with a retirement. It’s not clear what will happen here but if the Czech can play as well as he did in France and be 100% fit, she should find a way to prevail.
Predictions: Martincova in 3

Timea Babos vs Anna Bondar

Head-to-head: First meeting

This could be one of the matches of the round. Timea Babos might not be in her prime, but the Hungarian has actually been a huge force in ITF events this year (fifteen wins in a row at some point). Anna Bondar had her breakout run at the WTA 1000 in Rome, but that’s basically her only deep run this year. While she did make the semifinals in the previous edition, Babos still has a lot of quality and might be able to pull off the upset here.
Predictions: Babos in 3

Valentini Grammatikopoulou vs Tamara Korpatsch

Head-to-head: Korpatsch 1-0

Valentini Grammatikopoulou was on a bit of a losing streak recently and while she did get a win on the board in the qualifying here, she’s actually in the main draw as a lucky loser after getting crushed by Astra Sharma. The favorite for this match will be Tamara Korpatsch, who seems to have turned her season around after a dreadful start. The German is actually fairly close to the peak of her abilities now, while her opponent isn’t.
Prediction: Korpatsch in 3

Yulia Putinsteva vs Kateryna Volodko

Head-to-head: Volodko 2-1
