Wimbledon Day 4 Women’s Predictions Including Elena Rybakina vs Alize Cornet

The Wimbledon schedule has been modified due to rain, but there are still plenty of women’s matches scheduled for Day 4. As always, we here at LWOT will do our best to predict all of the matches for you. We split the matches already set for Thursday between three articles. In addition to this article, the others feature Barbora Krejcikova vs Mirra Andreeva and Aryna Sabalenka vs Varvara Gracheva. Predicting these matches are Jakub Bobro, Shane Black, and Manuel Traquete. Who do you think will win?

Wimbledon Day 4 Women’s Predictions

Jelena Ostapenko vs Sorana Cirstea

Jakub:
After retiring from her Eastbourne quarterfinal match to finish her seven-win streak after the Birmingham title, Ostapenko showed she is definitely feeling good again, sweeping up Greet Minnen 6-1 6-2. Cirstea stopped last year’s semifinalist Tatjana Maria in the first round but if Ostapenko brings her A-game, there is not much she can do.
Prediction: Ostapenko in 2

Shane:
Jelena Ostapenko dropped just three games in her Round 1 victory. She is 24-6 on the grass over the past three seasons. Sorana Cirstea can pull some magic in this match, but I do not believe she has the consistency to hang with the No. 17 seed.
Prediction: Ostapenko in 2

Manuel:
Cirstea got a nice win over a 2022 Wimbledon semifinalist in the first round and she should be competitive here too, but Ostapenko starts as a slight favorite and has generally had the advantage when the pair face (3-0, though none on grass).
Prediction: Ostapenko in 3

Madison Brengle vs Ekaterina Alexandrova

Jakub:
Brengle breezed past Sara Errani in the first round, one of the most underpowered matches in recent memory at Wimbledon. Alexandrova came in with a title from Hertogenbosch and semifinal from Berlin, beating Emma Navarro 6-4 6-3 despite not playing her best in the first set. Brengle can be a tricky player to face when you are not at your best but knowing what the Russian has in her locker, I have to pick Alexandrova here.
Prediction: Alexandrova in 2

Shane:
Ekaterina Alexandrova and Madison Brengle rolled through their respective Round 1 opponents. They square off looking to separate their head-to-head deadlock. Alexandrova is 14-2 on the grass over the last two seasons and should be able to push the American around the court.
Prediction: Alexandrova in 2

Manuel:
Alexandrova is the far superior and higher ranked player, but Brengle has actually won the only matchup between the pair, so Alexandrova will certainly have to be wary of her opponent here. She should still be able to pull through in the end.

Elena Rybakina vs Alize Cornet

Jakub:
Dealing with illness in the first round, Rybakina changed the tide significantly after losing the first set against Shelby Rogers, dropping just three games in sets two and three. Cornet will not roll over though and after a Nottingham semifinal run and a solid 6-2 6-2 first-round win over Nao Hibino, the Frenchwoman is playing her best tennis of the year. Cornet’s shock win over Iga Swiatek from last year is what she will try to emulate but it’s tough to see Rybakina going out this early.
Prediction: Rybakina in 3

Shane:
Defending Champion Elena Rybakina recovered from a set down to defeat Shelby Rogers in Round 1. Now that she got the nerves out of the way, I see her kicking it into high gear. She has already beaten Alize Cornet twice and will make it a third time in this encounter.
Prediction: Rybakina in 2

Manuel:
Rybakina is the defending champion but she has a very tough test here already. Cornet beat Swiatek at this tournament last year and is very competent on the surface. Rybakina will need to play her best tennis and be fully focused if she doesn’t want her title defense to come to an abrupt end.
