The U.S. Open is being played under surreal and unprecedented circumstances this year, so perhaps the odd scene that played out Wednesday night at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City involving Madison Brengle was strangely fitting.
Following an on-court interview after her 6-2, 6-3 upset of No. 19 seed Dayana Yastremska in the second round of the tournament, Brengle was caught on video yelling, “Alcohol!”
The 30-year-old out of Delaware proceeded to walk into the empty stands, where she was provided a miniature bottle of wine, which she promptly chugged.
Today's clear #USOpen MVP is Delaware's Madison Brengle.

According to tennis journalist Ben Rothenberg, the individual who provided Brengle the wine was Arina Rodionova, whom she defeated in the first round last week.
Also, reports indicate the wine imbibed by Brengle was produced by California’s Sutter Home.
Brengle is set to take on fellow American Shelby Rogers in third round on Friday. Until then, “Salute!”
