Lack of Action At Arthur Ashe Stadium Branded "One Of Worst Ever Days On Grand Slam Centre Court"

Each year, fans from across the globe tune in to watch the tense, exciting, edge-of-the-seat action from the US Open , yet hopeful supporters were left disappointed with the late action on day two.

Earlier in the day, fans from around the grounds at Flushing Meadows had been treated to some top-quality tennis. Former US Open winners Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka were in action and both veterans progressed with first-round wins, while top WTA players Ons Jabeur and Aryna Sabalenka also advanced with victories at Louis Armstrong Stadium.

The stage was set for a thrilling end to day two with defending US Open men's champion Carlos Alcaraz taking to Arthur Ashe Stadium before all-time US great Venus Williams and 2021 winner Danill Medvedev also set to showcase their talents on centre court. However, fans and journalists were left disappointed with the lack of action that followed.

First, Daniil Medvedev defeated Hungary's Attila Balasz, allowing him to win only two games. Then, home player Jessica Pegula cruised past Camila Giorgi in straight sets , before the night session started.

Venus Williams stepped up next to try and rouse the home crowd for some engaging evening action, but the two-time US Open champion was thrashed 6-1, 6-1 by Greet Minnen to further disappoint the Arthur Ashe spectators.

Ultimately, Carlos Alcaraz's first-round match against Dominik Koepfer was cut short when the German player rolled his ankle during the second set and was forced to retire .

None of the four matches on Arthur Ashe Stadium lasted longer than an hour and thirty minutes on day two of what could be considered one of the most uneventful sessions at any Grand Slam. Spectators will be hoping for more thrilling high-profile contests over the next two weeks to make up for the underwhelming day two action.
