Indian tennis great Leander Paes is considered one of the greatest doubles players of all time for his extraordinary record of most wins at the Davis Cup. In a recent interview, the Indian great applauded the current tennis player, Novak Djokovic.

Over time, different players have dominated a certain era. Starting with John McEnroe, who held remarkable records in the game, Roger Federer took over the game in a great fashion and became known as the best to play the game. The 20-time Grand Slam title champion , like the greats before him, fell to Nadal, who himself met his match in the form of Novak Djokovic.

And then out comes Djokovic, this Serbian boy who is a great athlete with a phenomenal mind—for me, by far the greatest of all time. Why? Because the history books show that. He has won 24 Grand Slams and counting … it doesn’t look like he’s stopping. This is insane. Said the Indian legend on Vogue India.

For the past decade, the 36-year-old has been continuously winning Grand Slams, placing himself at the top of the summit at 24 Grand Slams, reaching great heights that no one has even come close to.

Over time, the Serbian also won 40 ATP 1000 titles, 7 ATP Finals titles, and even ended the season as World No. 1 for the 8th time. These prestigious achievements allowed Paes to hail Djokovic as the best and confidently state that the 36 years won’t stop anytime soon.

Leander Paes backs up Novak’s statement on building up mental toughness, shares his little story

Recently, Serbian great Novak Djokovic revealed the secret behind his tough mental state in an interview on 60 Minutes. He said that over years of learning from his experiences on the court, he has been able to get his mental health to where it is right now.

The Indian legend Leander Paes also backed up the words of Djokovic with an inspiring story of his own.

As per the 8-time doubles champion himself, due to a mitral valve prolapse, the doctors predicted that he would not be able to get into sports. Despite this, the Indian became known as one of the best doubles and mixed doubles players in the world at the 8 and 10 Grand Slams, respectively.

With the strong mental strength of knowing the race he was running, the 50-year-old had managed to prove the doctors wrong and fight his battles on the court. These were strong words that backed up Djokovic, who is one of the icons of tennis
