'I was drunk there… don’t show that,' Victoria Azarenka wishes son wouldn’t follow her regretful 'steps' from back in her twenties

Former Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka doesn’t admire the person she was a decade ago despite the great success she enjoyed in her early 20s. During the Australian Cinema session, the Belarusian said that she would not love to see her son watch how she celebrated when she won her first major title.

Now a mother, the 34-year-old, watched how she danced during her first Grand Slam win in Melbourne in 2012, when she danced with a bottle of champagne in her hand. She recalled that she was drunk during the celebration and that she partied after every major title win. She went on to defend her Melbourne crown the following year.

I was drunk… don't show that. I was drunk after I won here, so I was dancing. It was funny. I was like 'I don't drink'. I'm like, 'What is that?' Azarenka explained on Cinema Sessions

She then spoke about how much she has evolved as a person since giving birth to her son Leo in 2016.

I've said it I think few times, since Leo was born I feel like the old version of myself kind of not disappeared, but it feels so foreign, it feels so far away. I feel like I've just started to relearn about myself, about life, the goals and purpose. Things that used to motivate me before, they just don't.

Towards the end of the segment, she added that her son is a great dancer but not like her. Victoria Azarenka was hoping for a better finish in the 2024 Australian Open after defeating Jelena Ostapenko in the third round. But the Belarusian was denied by Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska in the fourth round.

Victoria Azarenka is willing to become a good role model to son

Azarenka has admitted that she wants to continue to be a good role model for her son, Leo, after defeating Magdalena Ferch in the third round of the Qatar Open. The 34-year-old is seeking for her third title at the Qatar Open in Doha.

The Belarusian won the Qatar title in 2012 and 2013, gave birth in 2016, and returned to tennis seven months later to win the title.

I love that I'm able to communicate with Leo and with my nephew, who also plays tennis, when you can't talk too much, they see it and you explain it to them in those deep conversations that we have, even though he's seven. It's priceless to me and tennis plays such a big part of that. I'm very grateful for it. Azarenka said

Victoria Azarenka defeated Magdalene Ferch in a three-set victory 6-3,3-6, 6-3 in the third round and also won against Chinese Xinyu Wang in the Round of 32. She is now set to face Jelena Ostapenko in Round of 16.
