After a couple of days of splitting up with Holger Rune , Boris Becker took the side of Jannik Sinner‘s coach, Darren Cahill

In a recent interview with Eurosport, Cahill called two-time Olympic gold medalist Andy Murray “one of tennis’s greatest competitors.” Interestingly enough, Becker has re-tweeted the post with a caption.

I couldn't agree more. Becker wrote on X

Cahill’s interview comes after rumors floated about the Brit’s retirement. Murray has failed to win any of the four matches he has played in the 2024 season. His form too has been deteriorating after the injuries. He himself has denied the rumors of his retirement multiple times.

He has had to work damn hard for everything that he has achieved in the game. No one has the right to tell him when to hang it up. He can play for as long as he wants. There is no damaging his brand. What he has been able to achieve in his career has been remarkable, considering the opposition he has had. Cahill said via Eurosports

Murray had trained with Sinner prior to the Australian Open, during which the Australian coach said that the Brit was training and playing really well.

Besides Cahill, Boris Becker, who has been coach of various of Murray’s arch-rivals, such as Novak Djokovic, knows Murray quite well inside out.

Boris Becker’s decision to split with Holger Rune comes due to other professional responsibilities

Both Becker and Rune joined forces last year. The duo’s main aim was to win the ATP Tour Finals by the year end. However, they failed to do so.

Besides, with other responsibilities such as commentary and broadcasting, Becker didn’t have enough time to provide Rune. Even during the Australian Open 2024, Becker wasn’t able to be with Rune in his team as he was doing commentary besides Nick Kyrgios. After the split, Rune himself issued a statement

I have big ambitions and big goals, and I need people around me who have the same vision. And people I can trust to achieve my goals. Rune said

With that being said, it is yet to be seen who Holger Rune will be adding to his coaching team now.
