Holger Rune adds more firepower to his coaching team as he signs Roger Federer’s former coach Severin Luthi alongside Boris Becker

Holger Rune is one of the upcoming names in tennis and has quite frequently displayed his formidable form on the court. The Danish delivered decent results in Grand Slams this year and finished as the year-end World No. 8.

Most recently, Rune announced the addition of Roger Federer’s longtime coach Severin Luthi to his coaching team side by side with former German tennis star Boris Becker . The 20-year-old first joined hands with Boris Becker in October following his 2023 US Open campaign. His partnership with the six-time Grand Slam singles champion came after Holger Rune parted ways with French tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou.

Subsequently, the Danish recently introduced a brand new partnership in his coaching time with the addition of ‘Swiss Maestro’ Roger Federer’s longtime coach Severin Luthi. Rune’s latest announcement came via his official Instagram handle after witnessing merely 10 matches under Becker’s spell.

The 20-year-old’s most recent performance came at the season’s ATP Finals where he faced defeat in 2 out of 3 matches. Rune managed to get past Stefanos Tsitsipas’ challenge in the Turin event but failed to triumph against Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic and Italian Jannik Sinner.

Alex Corretja labels Holger Rune and Boris Becker as the perfect player-coach combination

Former tennis player and Eurosport consultant Alex Corretja recently lauded Holger Rune and Boris Becker’s player-coach relationship during an interview.

During his conversation with Eurosport, the Spaniard described how Becker can play an influential role in helping the Danish underplay his on-court emotions. Here is what he had to say:

He [Rune] needs to know the important moments, how to manage different situations, how to control his emotions, how to not spend energy in things that are not worth it. And I think with Boris, he's going to understand that. Alex Corretja on Boris Becker

After a decent partnership this year that assisted the World No. 8 to deliver notable results, the duo appears to be building a strong team and has decided to extend their collaboration for the 2024 season.
