'Can’t give Holger what he needs,' Boris Becker steps down as Holger Rune’s coach as he pens an explanatory note on social media

I would like to inform you that I will step down as the head coach of Holger Rune with immediate effect. We started this partnership with the initial goal to reach the ATP Finals end of last year. But moving forward I realized that in order for this to be successful, I would need to be available for Holger much more than I can. Boris Becker wrote on his Twitter.

Due to professional and private responsibilities, I can’t give Holger what he needs now. I wish him only the very best and I’m always going to be his n.1 fan. I truly appreciated this journey together. BB He further added

The German’s other professional commitments are thought to be the reason for Becker stepping down from his role. However, at the time of writing, Holger Rune has not made any official statement about the departure.

Holger Rune in dismay after Boris Becker leaves his camp

The Danish player has worked out with various coaches throughout his career. Becker, being the latest, was aimed at reaching the ATP Finals by the end of the year. 

However, that failed to happen, as he lost to another young talent, Jannik Sinner. Besides, the absence of Becker from the sidelines of Rune during the Australian Open also deteriorated Rune’s performance in the tournament. The young professional had to face defeat in the second round at the hands of Arthur Cazaux. 

With Becker leaving Rune’s coaching stint, Rune would need to find another coach. However, it would cause a lot of problems for the young player currently, with so many tournaments stacked up one after the other. Besides, with the Olympics this year, it would be a difficult one for the Danish player.
