Amanda Anisimova Re-Injures Herself After Returning To Tennis Practice
Danielle Parhizkaran-USA TODAY Sports

Amanda Anisimova shared an update to tennis fans that she is set for a spell on the sidelines after injuring herself while training.

Last month, Anisimova teased her potential comeback to tennis when she shared a glimpse of her training routine in a video on Instagram where's been posting regular updates of her life since taking an indefinite break from the sport in early May.

In the video, Anisimova is seen practicing on a tennis court with a hitting partner, which certainly gives a positive impression of her future. When Anisimova announced her leave, she cited burnout and concerns about her mental health .

It looked like the American ace was working on her fitness and her game judging by frequent updates on social media in the past month. But she has succumbed to injury in the past week and shared the news on her Instagram stories.

"I got injured training last week so back to calm Monday mornings."

In her time away, Anisimova announced plans to head back to school and enrolled as a student-athlete at Nova Southeastern University in Florida. The two-time WTA titlist is also sharpening her artistic skills and is looking to sell her authentic paintings with all the sales benefitting charities.

Anisimova has not set a timetable for her return. It is highly unlikely we'll even see her in action again in 2023 with the season drawing to a close. It's been a turbulent year for the New Jersey native who will finish the year with a 3-8 record.

Anisimova is a former junior champion of the US Open and was destined for greatness when she broke through on the main tour at the 2019 Roland Garros. She stunned the defending champion Simona Halep in the quarterfinal while being only 17.

However, her father and longtime coach Konstantin sadly passed away later that year, forcing Anisimova to abandon her season just before the US Open. And in 2020, the Covid suspension of the Tour happened and it curtailed her development. Four years on since that major breakthrough, Anisimova's career appears to be at a crossroads.
