Alexander Zverev ‘doing very well’ as brother Mischa delivers positive injury update

Mischa Zverev has issued an injury update on brother Alexander Zverev as the German embarks on his recovery from surgery.

Zverev was engaged in a three hour, 15 minute battle with Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros when he badly rolled his ankle and was forced to concede the match.

The contest had been so ferocious that they had not even completed two sets by that point, with Zverev causing the kind of problems for Nadal that few have before on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

He has since had surgery to repair torn ligaments in his ankle, and he could miss the rest of the season as a result.

However, Mischa Zverev reports the general prognosis is good and there are no real complications to the injury.

“The ligaments were damaged, but the syndesmosis ligament and the capsule are intact,” Mischa Zverev told Eurosport Germany.

“All the other joints and the cartilage are also fine. It is really only the ligaments that have suffered.

“He is doing very well under the circumstances, he immediately had a smile on his face and we spoke on the phone several times”.
