Young Brazilian right-back Yan Couto appears finally set to get an opportunity to with the Manchester City first team. The young defender has starred this season for Girona as they have risen to second on the La Liga table. It’s this form that has put Couto in the frame for the City first team next season.

Harry Pratt reports for the Daily Star that Manchester City have decided on the youngster’s future. Pratt reports that the European champions have no intention of selling the Brazilian international. His strong form for Girona has attracted the interest of Real Madrid Pratt further reports. Furthermore, Pratt adds that Pep Guardiola has decided that he wants the right-back in his squad for next season. In addition to being called up to the Manchester City first team, Pratt reports that he will be offered a long-term contract extension with the European champions.

Yan Couto signed for Manchester City in March of 2020. Since arriving at the club he has spent the majority of his time at the club out on loan. He has spent time on loan at SC Braga and Girona as he has developed his game. The time Couto has spent playing in Europe has aided his development. Rather than take the path through the City EDS system Couto has developed in Spain and Portugal. It has proven to be a shrewd decision as his game has developed and has now put him firmly in Manchester City’s plans.

There could be a role in the near future at City for the young defender. With Kyle Walker getting on in age the champions appear in need of a right-back. If Pratt’s report is correct it appears that Couto will be given a shot to stake his claim for the position. Given his rise in Spain this season there is no reason that Yan Couto can’t make the step up at Manchester City next season.
