Former Germany international and World Cup winner Jerome Boateng is in Italy and is now on his way over for a medical ahead of an impending move to Salernitana.

Boateng is currently a free agent, having left Ligue 1 side Lyon upon the expiry of his contract in June 2023. He had spent the two seasons prior in France.

Before that, Boateng enjoyed an illustrious, 10-year spell with Bayern Munich, where he developed a formidable centre-back partnership with international teammate Mats Hummels.

While in Bavaria, Boateng lifted 10 consecutive Bundesliga trophies, five DFB Pokals and claimed two Champions League titles in 2013 and 2020. He was also part of the triumphant Germany squad that won the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

According to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio, Boateng agreed a deal on personal terms with Salernitana on Tuesday evening. It is expected that he will initially sign a short-term contract until the end of the 2023-24 season to help Pippo Inzaghi’s side avoid relegation to Serie B.
