Winning FA Cup would be a sign of overachieving, says Ten Hag

Erik ten Hag claims Manchester United will have over-achieved if they win the FA Cup this season.

It is no secret that we will be going into the FA Cup final against Man City as underdogs.

In a repeat of last year’s Wembley final, United will be seeking revenge against Pep Guardiola’s side, who are also pushing Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

Ten Hag has his players faced criticism after edging past Championship side Coventry City on penalties in the semi-finals. United led 3-0 with 20 minutes of normal time to go before conceding three goals.

The manager believes the team’s struggles with injury this campaign are a major factor behind our underwhelming season.

“I would say it’s over-performing with all the problems we have had,” Ten Hag said when asked about winning silverware in his second season in charge, as quoted by RTE.

“Getting into the final is already a big achievement, but we are here for trophies. We have an opportunity to win a trophy and that is good. But we are not satisfied by being in the final, we want to win it and that is what we will go for and it’s our mentality.

“That is why we are successful. That’s why I am successful over 10 years as a manager, I always bring out the maximum of each squad.”

United take on Sheffield United in the Premier League tonight, but Ten Hag will hope that some of his injured players are back in time for the next day out at Wembley.

It would be a big bonus for United to have Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw fully fit for the FA Cup final next month.
