Will Still has played down reports he is set to join Sunderland, saying his immediate ‘desire’ is to win games for Stade de Reims.

Still has been a top target for Sunderland as they look for a new head coach following the sacking of Tony Mowbray earlier this month.

Reports in France have claimed he approached Sunderland directly and wants the job but, speaking to the media ahead of Reims’ match against Lens this weekend, he has distanced himself from those reports – although he has confirmed Sunderland’s interest and failed to specifically rule himself out of the running.

“I cannot deny the fact that there is interest in me, I confirm that,” Still said, as per RMC Sport.

“As there has been in the past, like this summer and like in recent weeks. I find it quite flattering without being arrogant at all or without being pretentious.

“But for now and today I am the coach of Stade de Reims. This is what I can say about it. For me it stops there.

Still was said to be in London discussing the Sunderland job with Kyril Louis-Dreyfus earlier this week, according to a report in L’Equipe.

He says he was indeed in London, but said it was personal business and joked that it is actually very common for him to make that trip.

“Monday I went to London but I went there to see my girlfriend who is English and lives in London. I think I'm a loyal Eurostar customer because I've been going back and forth every week for three or four months.

“If the Eurostar people hear me, I would like a loyalty price because I often take the Eurostar to go to England. My intention is to concentrate on the Lens match and try to win it. Then concentrate on the Le Havre match and try to win it then try to finally take advantage of some time off and come back after the break to try to qualify for the Coupe de France.

“This is my intention and desire today. I knew that at the slightest opportunity people would try to change my image or try to make me look like a mercenary.

“This makes me laugh more than anything else. It's like saying I was going to send my CV to Manchester United because Erik ten Hag is under pressure. I know I'm stupid and I'm not the smartest, but I'm not that stupid."
