For Manchester City, they did all they could to beat the La Liga leaders. After falling behind early to an early Rodrygo strike, the world champions dominated the vast majority of last night’s match. A combination of determined Real Madrid defending and poor finishing from City kept Real Madrid in the tie. While it was disappointing to see Manchester City go out of the competition, the City players can hold their heads high. They left it all on the pitch, which speaks to the elite mentality of Pep Guardiola’s squad. It just wasn’t their night. But they must rebound quickly with Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea just around the corner. It gives the world champions something to focus on following last night’s result. It will take a Herculean effort from the City squad to lift themselves for the game, but they have shown over the years that they are more than capable.
