Former Real Madrid star Rafael van der Vaart has slammed Erling Haaland after his Champions League performance in midweek.

Haaland drew a blank as City drew 3-3 at Real in the first-leg of their quarterfinal on Tuesday.

"I think he was really bad. If Haaland doesn't score, he doesn't do much for the team. Obviously he's fast and works hard, but he's average with the ball. If you are now so good, and everyone is talking about it, then you should show more," said Van der Vaart to VoetbalPrimeur.

Even Haaland's technique once again left more to be desired, says Van der Vaart.

"It could have been a little better. It looked really clumsy today (Tuesday), I thought. City needed a striker who could hold onto the ball, and that has never worked with Haaland. I think they ignored him on purpose at one point, he was really the worst on the pitch today."
