Timbers sign pair of goalkeepers through 2025
John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

The Portland Timbers added two goalkeepers to the roster, signing James Pantemis and Trey Muse.

The Timbers announced the moves Friday and said both players are signed through the 2025 season with club options for 2026.

"One of our main priorities this offseason was to recreate our goalkeeping group, and that work is well underway," general manager Ned Grabavoy said. "We are excited to welcome both James and Trey to the Portland Timbers. Both players have good experience with upside and will help create healthy competition within this position as we move forward."

The club also has Aljaz Ivacic and Hunter Sulte on the roster. Ivacic started 15 games last season and had a 3-7-5 record.

Pantemis, 26, spent the past six seasons in the CF Montreal organization and had seven clean sheets in 34 regular-season appearances. He has allowed 51 goals.

Muse, 24, was part of the Charleston Battery's 2023 team that reached the USL Championship final. He started 33 matches and set a career high with 13 clean sheets. He ranked seventh in the league with 87 saves.

Muse joined Seattle Sounders FC in 2019 as a homegrown player. He made 69 total appearances on loan with Tacoma Defiance (2019-20), San Diego Loyal (2021) and Memphis 901 (2022) before moving on to Charleston.

The Timbers open the 2024 season on Feb. 24 when the Colorado Rapids visit Portland.
