Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson is at the top of Inter Milan’s list as the Nerazzurri plot an ambitious squad strengthening campaign this summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

On the pitch, Inter still have this season to think about.

The Nerazzurri may be on the verge of clinching the Serie A title. But they haven’t done so yet.

And in any event, the team will want to end the campaign as positively as possible in the run-in over the next few weeks.

But off the pitch, Inter are very much thinking about next season already.

And the Gazzetta report that the Nerazzurri’s focus is clear – they want a deeper squad available to Simone Inzaghi for next season.

Naturally, the club will want to build on the momentum of this season’s Serie A campaign, and push to win another title.

And then there will be the expanded Champions League and Club World Cup competitions.

These will be opportunities for Inter. But also put greater strain on the club’s squad than ever, with a fixture list that is nothing less than brutal.

Albert Gudmundsson Heads Up Inter Squad Strengthening Campaign

For all of those reasons, Inter want genuine strength in depth at Inzaghi’s disposal.

That is reflected in the two big signings that the Nerazzurri have already secured.

Both Piotr ZIelinski and Mehdi Taremi will arrive on free transfers. And the hope is certainly that both can fight for spots in the regular starting eleven.

But that won’t be enough, reports the Gazzetta.

In attack, the newspaper anticipate, Inter want to follow up Taremi’s signing with an even more high-profile move.

And according to the Gazzetta, Genoa forward Gudmundsson is the Nerazzurri’s top target by far.

The former AZ Alkmaar man has fully convinced Inter. They see him as having exactly the profile that they need to compete at an even higher level next season.

Competition from the Premier League could end up being the major obstacle for Inter to sign Gudmundsson. But they are confident, and ready to make their move for the Icelandic international.

Meanwhile, the Gazzetta anticipate, another area in which Inter will intervene in the transfer market is the defense.

Real Madrid veteran Nacho is a potential opportunity to add quality and immense European experience to the rotations for the back three.
