Clarence Seedorf believes that Gianluigi Donnarumma made the wrong decision by leaving AC Milan, the club where he was ‘at home’.

Donnarumma came through the youth academy at Milan and made his professional debut for the club at the age of 16, nailing down a starting spot while still a teenager and also establishing himself as one of the best young goalkeepers around Europe.

However, after a difficult renewal negotiation in 2017, when it came time to negotiate another contract extension Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara didn’t take kindly to the Italian and his agent Mino Raiola playing hard ball again.

Thus, Milan signed Mike Maignan to replace Gigio who ended up joining PSG on a free transfer, where he eventually won the starting spot off Keylor Navas after initial difficulties.

Seedorf spoke on Amazon Prime before the PSG-Milan game which he is working on as a pundit and he was asked for his thoughts on Donnarumma, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“Donnarumma made the wrong choice to leave Milan. Such a young goalkeeper doesn’t need to leave his club so soon, he has a long career ahead of him. Gigio was at home at Milan,” he said.
