Now that Torino are starting to close a deal for Matteo Lovato, Salernitana are ready to welcome former Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng.

The 35-year-old German centre back has been a free agent for the last six months, having left Olympique Lyon at the end of last season. His career has been plagued by off-pitch legal issues over the last few years but now he’s ready to return to action.

Salernitana have started to prove themselves a haven for aging stars in recent years, welcoming Franck Ribery in 2021, Antonio Candreva in 2022 and Guillermo Ochoa last year. The club currently sit rock bottom of the league table after 21 games, desperately needing reinforcements.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Salernitana will meet with Boateng’s agent in the coming hours to finalise an agreement regarding a free transfer, with the veteran defender having accessible wage demands.

Lovato has decided to join Torino, allowing that deal to be finalised and making space in the Granata squad for Boateng.
