Ryan Reynolds fulfills dying wish for Wrexham fan

It turns out Hollywood superstar Ryan Reynolds gave one Wrexham supporter a gift that was about much more than earning promotion to the English Football League.

According to BBC News, Reynolds spent some time with 45-year-old Jay Fear and Fear's family on Saturday. Fear has terminal appendix cancer and said his dying wish was to meet the "Deadpool" star and watch Wrexham in action.

According to Tracey Harrington McCoy of People, Reynolds gave Fear a glove from the famous movie franchise, posed for photographs with the family and invited Fear to the set of "Deadpool 3" in London.

"It was amazing to meet Jay," Reynolds explained. "I wonder if I'd have the same unwavering joy if our roles were reversed. He is an exceptional person and his family is wonderful. I got a little choked up talking to him and feeling how much his kids and wife are going to miss him."

Fear and his family attended Wrexham's 3-1 victory over Boreham Wood that assured the Welsh club promotion from the fifth tier of English football to the fourth tier for the first time in 15 years. The Bucket List Wishes charitable organization helped arrange the meeting between the supporter and actor after it put Fear on Reynolds' radar.

BBC News previously reported that Fear, diagnosed in January, has only "months to live."

"They always say you should never meet your idol and this guy is definitely an exception to that," Fear said during an interview with BBC 5 Live's "Sunday Breakfast" program. Fear added he is hopeful that he'll get to see "Deadpool 3" but also insisted this past weekend was a gift for his loved ones.

"Actually, this is for [my family] because they are the ones that are going to remember what happened for the rest of their lives," Fear remarked. "I just hope this is a core memory that they'll never forget."

Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney purchased Wrexham AFC during the COVID-19 pandemic and have vowed they want to lead the club all the way to the top of the pyramid and the English Premier League. They helped make the club an international sensation via the "Welcome to Wrexham" docuseries.
