Romano confirms ‘Tottenham appreciate’ Europa semifinalist ahead of summer window

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in acquiring the services of Atalanta midfield star Ederson.

Signing a new midfielder is going to be one of the top priorities for Tottenham Hotspur in the upcoming summer transfer window. The North London club are looking at ways to further bolster their squad and they feel a top quality midfielder could help them take the next step.

Atalanta’s Ederson is a player that people at the North London club appreciate a lot according to Fabrizio Romano. While they would love to sign the 24-year-old Europa League semifinalist from the Italian club, it is not going to be very difficult to prise him away this summer.

Romano said to GiveMeSport : “Ederson is going to be very, very difficult because Atalanta are already expected to sell Teun Koopmeiners in the midfield, and Koopmeiners and Ederson are the two starters for Atalanta. So to sell two crucial players in the same position, in the same summer, I think it’s very unlikely.

“So there is an appreciation, it’s true, that Tottenham appreciate the player, as do many other clubs around Europe. For example, it is the same for Barcelona and other clubs in England. But at the moment, I think it’s going to be difficult to sign the player from Atalanta.”

Ederson has been a key player for Atalanta

Ederson seems to have taken his game to another level in his second season at the club. He has established himself as a mainstay at Atalanta and his performances have put him on the radar of top clubs from across Europe.

While clubs like Tottenham have the financial strength to prise him away from Atalanta, the Italian outfit are unlikely to sanction his sale. Teun Koopmeiners is expected to be on the move in the summer. As a result, Atalanta will not want to lose two first-team starters from the same position in the same window.

Spurs are expected to part ways with a few of their midfielders who are surplus to requirements and they want to bring in a top quality replacement. Ederson is a name that is quite high on their wishlist but they will have to look at other options with Atalanta expected to stand in his way.
