Roma are considering adding a defender given their various injuries and have been offered Jerome Boateng, who’s a free agent. He didn’t sign with Bayern Munich despite a recent try-out, Corriere dello Sport informs.

The veteran is asking for a one-year contract with an option. He too has dealt with recurring physical issues, though. In addition, he would need time to be up to speed after spending months without a team. He recently told Bild to be eager to resume playing.

“I’m ready for new challenges. I’m in excellent shape, and I’m not in the twilight of my career. My energy level is high every day. I want to show it once again.”

Roma are also examining RB Salzburg’s Oumar Solet and fellow free agents Shkodran Mustafi and Phil Jones on top of Boateng. Chris Smalling, Diego Llorente, and Marash Kumbulla are currently out with injuries. The Spaniard is the only one fairly certain to return right after the break.

Instead, the Englishman might need further time to recuperate from a tendon injury. The youngster is recovering from an ACL tear. Moreover, the Giallorossi will also lose Evan N’Dicka for a while due to AFCON 2024 in the winter.

Our Take on Roma and Boateng

The situation has gotten so dire that they should indeed think about onboarding somebody out of contract, and he’s one of the best ones in that respect, especially if they have no certainties about Smalling’s return date.
