One of the main talking points ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup has centered on just who between Argentina forward Lionel Messi and France forward Kylian Mbappe is the current best player in the world. For former Brazil left-back Roberto Carlos, he prefers to side with another Paris Saint-Germain forward in this debate.

Carlos has been in attendance for numerous matches at the 2022 World Cup, and when asked on Friday to simply choose between Messi and Mbappe, he went with Neymar.

“Neymar,” Carlos said. “Neymar, always.”

Neymar finished his 2022 World Cup campaign with three total goal contributions recorded in three matches played. In the end, Brazil crashed out in the quarterfinal round at the hands of the Croatia national team.

For now, Neymar sure will watch the upcoming World Cup final to see whether Messi will win this tournament for the first time in his career or if Mbappe will make room for a second World Cup winners’ medal in his trophy cabinet.
