Ian Maatsen to Borussia Dortmund on loan had the Fabrizio Romano ‘here we go’ call last night, the first of the window that involves Chelsea.
Maatsen will join Dortmund officially on loan until the end of the season this week.
Some confusion around the actual deal has been going around, but it looks like there wont be an option to buy included (per Sky Germany and Fabrizio Romano below), at least for now.

In regards to Ian Maatsen's loan to Borussia Dortmund, @FabrizioRomano has said at the moment there is no buy option. But he will explain more in the next few days about how it works.#CFC

So does this mean that Maatsen might still have a career at Chelsea? It certainly helps that scenario, as does the fact that it looks like Chelsea have also added an option to extend his contract, that is at least according to reports in Italy (as below).
Reports out of Italy, @LucaBendoni specifically is saying that Chelsea have included in the talks an option to extend Maatsen’s contract one year until June 2026 which can be triggered at the end of the season.
This changes my view quite a bit. https://t.co/MxsQNymHsl

It certainly seems like an interesting deal and one that leaves the door fully wide open for Maatsen to come back to Chelsea in the summer and continue his career at the club.
