Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi has decided to start Matteo Darmian on the right against Atletico Madrid. This evening’s Champions League round of sixteen clash kicks off at 21.00 CET.

This evening, Inzaghi has gone with what he sees as his strongest possible starting eleven available, more or less.

Firstly, that means that Yann Sommer starts in goal.

Secondly, in defense it is Stefan de Vrij starting in the centre of a back three with Benjamin Pavard and Alesssandro Bastoni. Francesco Acerbi is missing through injury.

Therefore, it is de Vrij who marshals the backline.

Thirdly in midfield, there are no surprises. The trio of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Nicolo Barella all start.

Then, on the flanks, Inzaghi has made his biggest decision. On the right, former Manchester United veteran Matteo Darmian starts.

Therefore, Denzel Dumfries only has a place on the bench.

Meanwhile, on the left Darmian’s fellow Italian international Federico Dimarco starts.

Lautaro Martinez & Marcus Thuram Lead The Line In Champions League Showdown

Lastly, the attack is also the first-choice strike partnership.

Therefore, World Cup winner Lautaro Martinez – Inter’s captain – starts, no surprise.

Furthermore, leading the line alongside the captain is his opponent from the World Cup final, France international Marcus Thuram.

Meanwhile, aside from Dumfries, there are several options on the bench for Inzaghi.

Midfielder Davide Frattesi is one of the big ones, having come back from injury recently.

Then, on the left, Carlos Augusto is ready to take the place of Dimarco. And as a wild card at wingback, Tajon Buchanan is available – the Canadian made his Inter debut against Salerntiana.

Subsequently, Simone Inzaghi has veteran strikers Marko Arnautovic and Alexis Sanchez on the bench.

In conclusion, two Inter players are one booking away from suspension, namely Lautaro Martinez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
