National Soccer Hall of Fame inducts the 2020 and 2021 Classes

Class of 2020 Inductees

Known for his iconic and unforgettable “GOOOOOOOL!” call, Andres Cantor received the 2020 Colin Jose Media Award. Cantor is the iconic voice of American Soccer, and over 6000 games broadcasted via play-by-play broadcast and radio.

“To win the Colin Jose Award, It’s a great honor,” said Cantor. “To be the first Hispanic broadcaster to be inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame is so special to me, but it’s also a reminder that soccer is a sport of passion and passion transcends language.”

Nico Cantor, son of Andres Cantor, gave his thoughts as his father received the Colin Jose Media Award. “It’s exciting, It’s quite an honor for my family because my dad has put in a lot of hard work throughout the years,” said Nico Cantor. “It’s great to see him rewarded in this manner; it fills the family with pride and gratitude.”

Completeting the 2020 Hall of Fame inductees was Carlos Bocanegra. Bocanegra captained the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team a total of 64 times and over 100 appearances. As a result of his actions on the field, Bocanegra was inducted into the prestigious list of Hall of Famers.

“I’m proud; it’s a moment that I look into the past,” said Bocanegra. “I want to thank my family and friends who’ve supported me in my career. It’s a great moment.”

Class of 2021 Inductees

As part of the 2021 Hall of Fame inductees, the builder of Major League Soccer’s first dynasty, Kevin Payne, was presented as Hall of Fame inductee. After Payne’s work with D.C. United as General Manager over 15 years, winning four MLS championships in his tenure with D.C. United.

Former DC United and MetroStars player Jaime Moreno was also recognized as an inductee for the 2021 Hall of Fame following a 15-year playing career and four-time MLS Champion and two-time U.S. Open Cup Champion. With more than 100 goals and 100 assists, Jaime Moreno is a rightful player and inductee to the Hall of Fame.

While spending most of his time in Germany playing for Hannover 96, Steve Cherundolo solidified with the German community. As a result, his actions on and off the field were recognized and awarded by being immortalized in the Hall of Fame. Cherundudolo also took this opportunity to share an important message about mental health.

The 2022 National Soccer Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place next year on Saturday, May 21.
