Matthaus declares Liverpool target Xabi perfect fit for Bayern Munich

Germany World Cup winning captain Lothar Matthaus wants to see Xabi Alonso take charge of Bayern Munich.

The Bayer Leverkusen coach is being linked with Bayern and Liverpool as both clubs seek new coaches for next season.

Matthaus told Sky Deutschland: "I do not know of any coach in Europe or in the world that fits better in Bayern Munich than Xabi Alonso.

"Xabi Alonso has to be at the top of Bayern's list for his resume, his authority and his successful work at Leverkusen."

Xabi's contract at Bayer runs to 2026.
