Liverpool boss Klopp: Gomez deserves England recall

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is happy for Joe Gomez after his England recall.

Klopp had been pushing the defender's name in the lead-up to Thursday's announcement.

He said, "I don't think I had a lot of influence. It wasn't necessary.

"Joey deserves it, obviously. Absolutely. The season he plays so far he has been exceptional. He plays a lot of time with the kids and we would definitely not be where we are at the moment without him. He has played so many different positions.

"I saw in his face he was very happy about it as well. Good news. Now let's play the game, hopefully he comes back healthy and he can play the rest of the season."
