Lazio Look to Compete With Roma for Liverpool Veteran

Lazio have set their sights on Liverpool defender Joel Matip ahead of the summer but will have to fight off interest from Roma.

The 32-year-old defender will leave the Reds on a free transfer at the end of the June, bringing an end to a positive eight-year spell on Merseyside, where he’s won a Premier League title, the Champions League and the FA Cup.

Lazio are planning to make some sweeping changes in the summer transfer market as they look to kickstart a new project under Igor Tudor, who is currently evaluating all the players ahead of his first full campaign in charge.

As reported by Corriere della Sera via Calciomercato.com, Lazio are interested in making a move for Matip once he leaves Liverpool on a free transfer in the summer and could open talks for the defender in the coming days.

Roma are also considering a possible move for the 32-year-old, providing some competition for the Biancocelesti in the summer transfer window.
