Juventus and Locatelli Put Pen to Paper on Renewal Deal

Juventus confirmed to have struck an agreement with Manuel Locatelli on a new contract that will last until 2028. The club announced it on Thursday. He’s second renewal in short order following Federico Gatti’s one.

According to FootballNews24, the midfielder added two years to his previous deal. His wages raised slightly from €3M to €3.5M, add-ons included. On the other hand, the team reduced his weight on the balance sheets, which was €16.1M annually, thanks to a longer amortization.

Locatelli joined Juventus from Sassuolo on August 21^st after a long negotiation. He did it on loan initially, and the Bianconeri bought him out for €30M two years later. The operation envisages €7.5M in potential bonuses for the Neroverdi tied to sporting results.

The 25-year-old has collected 103 appearances with the Old Lady, scoring 4 times and dishing 8 assists. He’s a product of the Milan youth sector and left the Rossoneri to play more consistently in Emilia in a €14M move in 2019. He has 26 caps and 3 goals with Italy.

The Bianconeri have successfully taken care of the easier extensions. His salary and Federico Gatti’s one are manageable. However, for their cost-cutting strategy to be successful, they’ll need to save on other meaningful pieces or overpaid backups, for instance, in no particular order, Daniele Rugani, Wojciech Szczesny, Dusan Vlahovic, and Federico Chiesa. Instead, the negotiation with Adrien Rabiot is pivotal from a roster construction point of view.
