Gianluigi Donnarumma made two big first-half saves for Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League semi-final first leg against Borussia Dortmund, which former Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar particularly enjoyed, despite the Parisians going in for half-time 1-0 down.

The Italy national team no.1 made a crucial intervention to deny Marcel Sabitzer after 13 minutes, rushing off his line to close down the angle at his near post.

Sabitzer threatened again later on in the first half, this time from the centre of the penalty area with the ball up on the volley, but Donnarumma was able to get down low quickly to deny the Austrian.

During Prime Video’s coverage of the Champions League semi-final, guest pundit Julio Cesar was full of praise for Donnarumma: “The saves are important because it keeps the team in the game, when the goalkeeper is called upon, he has to respond.

“He made two good saves, so he has the right confidence, and he was demonstrated his strengths up against Sabitzer. He had the speed to get down to the ground, he’s a very tall goalkeeper, big stature, but he still reacted.”

The former Nerazzurri stopper also thought that there was little the ex-Milan man could have done to prevent Fullkrug’s opener.

“Fullkrug is a very strong player and he is proving nit. He scored a great goal here, the first touch was exceptional. It’s difficult for the goalkeeper, maybe he could have come out a bit further, but the control and the shot were excellent.”
